Feeling triggered? EMDR can help.
Trauma changes the human brain at a cellular level. Any mammal forced into a corner of fear will respond in fight, flight, or freeze. This response repeated once or many times creates changes in the brain that lead to nervous system overdrive, leading to triggers.
Trauma triggers can feel like anxiety, anger, rage, sadness, body pains, increased heart rate, or feeling separated from yourself and others.
People might have difficulty sleeping or relaxing, might compulsively work, or have another addiction. They might live in a state of fear and hypervigilance and appear to be “overreacting” to normal life events.
The good news is that there is hope for growth and a life with less anxiety and more ease. EMDR changes the brain at a neuron level, reorganizes trauma memories, and significantly reduces or eliminates nervous system overdrive. In EMDR therapy, we identify triggers and trace them back to stuck memories.
Some of our clients have been in therapy in the past and have found EMDR much more effective than just regular talk therapy. I help adults who struggle with symptoms of anxiety, who feel overwhelmed in life, and spend their days caring for everyone else. You will learn to identify your feelings and emotions and develop skills that help you cope. As you develop self-compassion, you will learn to turn off the negative self-talk and worry that fills your head at night. Together, we will explore patterns in your family and life that keep you stuck and leave you feeling unlovable, worthless, and hopeless. We will examine thought patterns that create feelings of shame and defeat.
Remember that there is hope. Healing can happen. We’re here to help.
